Over the lifetime of the Nederland Economic Development Corporation, there has been little fruit. Wal-Mart, Mid Jefferson Hospital, H-E-B and three other business that I personally know of have decided to locate in neighboring cities, leaving the City of Nederland to scramble to balance the budget.
In the past, I have publicly stated that I support the Nederland Economic Development Corporation. However, sometimes enough is enough. Cities must stop doing things that use to work years ago and start thinking outside the box including speaking to citizens and asking for input how to better your city.
EDC must put properties they own back on the market. If sold, these properties would add much needed revenue to the tax rolls which would be a benefit. The City can then re-invest into infrastructure and needed manpower for our first responders and public works department.
We, as citizens, can not afford to sit on the sidelines and watch. Get in the game!
It's time for a change!
It is time to close the Nederland Economic Development Corporation, immediately
So, dissolve it. Stop wasting taxpayer's money on something that hasn't worked.
